State Tennis Champs!
Local Women's Tennis Team Advances to Sectionals

Team Reeve, comprised of members from Harbor Springs, Petoskey, Alpena and Sault Ste. Marie, Canada, is the state of Michigan 3.5 Women's United States Tennis Association champions and have earned the right to compete at the USTA Sectional tournament Aug. 14-16 in Indianapolis. Team Reeve won the Michigan title following matches Aug. 8-9 at Hope College after winning 2-1 over Northeastern Michigan, Western Michigan and Southeastern Michigan teams.

Since 2010, the team has won the Northern Michigan local league competition every year except 2011 and earned the opportunity to play at the state level. "We got closer every year and in our fifth try, prevailed," said team captain Wendy Reeve of Harbor Springs. "Now we are on to USTA Sectionals where we play for the Midwest Championship against Ohio, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin." The winner advances to the National Championships held in Tucson, Arizona, in November 2015.

Update: Team Reeve went on to play in Indianapolis and although they only won one team match, they had a lot of fun.  “We played good tennis and learned a lot!” said a team payer. They plan to be back next year even stronger.
