Job Description:

The Executive Director reports to the NMTA Board of Directors and serves as an ex-officio, non-voting member of the Management Committee which is comprised of the President, 3 Vice Presidents, Treasurer, Secretary and immediate Past President.

The duties of the Executive Director include:


  • Directing any part time or volunteer staff
    • Preparing the agenda, minutes and Activity Log for the organizations' meetings
  • Developing plans for workshops, clinics, banquets and other major and minor activities of the organization
    • Preparing the annual calendar of events
    • Developing publications such as newsletters, brochures and/or yearbook
    • Collecting and preparing data pertaining to all activities sponsored by NMTA
  • Developing a media outreach strategy that will effectively promote the goals and mission of the organization
  • Maintains official records and records and documents to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations
  • Plan, manage and perform all administrative and clerical tasks necessary for the operation of the NMTA

Position Qualifications:

The candidate will be committed to the values and purpose of NMTA and its parent associations and have a proven record of successful leadership and managerial experience.  It is important that the candidate have exceptional interpersonal communication skills necessary to relate to a variety of external and internal constituencies. The successful candidate will be expected to exhibit the energy and enthusiasm needed to effectively promote the mission of NMTA i.e., to promote and grow the sport of tennis throughout Northern Lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.



Executive Director

Northern Michigan Tennis Association

NMTA is seeking to fill the Executive Director position. The ED promotes and develops the growth of tennis throughout Northern Lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula and reports to a Board of Directors while supervising part-time staff and coordinating a volunteer team.


The job requires a minimum of 20 hrs./wk. and candidates should have experience administering an athletic program, preferably in the area of tennis; computer skills with experience using excel, windows XP, Microsoft publisher; and the energy and enthusiasm to effectively promote the mission of NMTA. A home office work environment is encouraged and will be supported with appropriate office equipment.  Salary will be competitive based upon experience.
