On November 20, 2016 Northern Michigan Tennis Association hosted their 2016 Awards Reception at Treetops Resort in Gaylord. There was a great turn out of about 45 players, coaches, and volunteers from all across our 39 counties to recognize the award recipients. Michigan Crowned 2017 Tennis on Campus National Champions

Michigan defeated the University of California, Irvine, in the final of the 2017 Tennis On Campus National Championship, 24-20, with the Wolverines’ mixed team overcoming a late deficit to deliver the victory. It was Michigan’s first TOC Nationals title. Read More

Gaylord Tennis Women Shine at Traverse City Tournament

Two Gaylord area women, along with their mixed doubles tennis partners, took first and second place honors for their 6.5 division at the recent Bob Swanson Memorial Tournament in Traverse City. Sue Wadel Smith from Gaylord and partner Dave Sizemore from Cedar Springs were first place Champs, and Sindy Steffner from Johannesburg and partner Steve Rybarsyk from Williamsburg were Finalists after the challenging weekend long competition. Michigan Captures Back-to-Back Midwest Tennis on Campus Championships

32 teams descended upon Madison, WI for the Midwest Tennis on Campus Championships, where seven teams sealed a bid to Nationals in April. The University of Michigan took the title after knocking off Wisconsin 25-18. Read More
 

Patterson, Pearson and Malpass Highlight USTA/Midwest Award Winners

Tom Patterson (Chicago, Illinois) received the 2016 USTA/Midwest Section Mel Bergman Award, the Section’s most prestigious award. The Tad Malpass Family of East Jordan, Michigan, received the Section Family of the Year Award. John Pearson (Indianapolis, Indiana) received the Section Stan Malless Award. All three award winners were honored on January 28, 2017, during the USTA/MIdwest Section Annual Meeting in Indianapolis. Read More
 

USTA Midwest Seeks Nominations for 2017 Awards

The USTA/Midwest Section has two deadlines for its awards each year, and the first deadline for this year is March 22, 2017. The awards for this deadline will be presented at locations around the USTA/Midwest Section during the spring and summer. Any individual may nominate a USTA/Midwest Section member, organization, etc. for a USTA/Midwest Section award. Nomination forms may be submitted through the mail, email, or online. Read More
