Tennis on Tour in Northern Michigan

The Cherry Festival Kids' Day held at F & M Park enjoyed a special event the last two summers when the USTA Midwest Tennis on Tour van came to town.

Three hundred children, from toddlers to 12-year olds, enjoyed their turn at hitting nerf-like tennis balls at stations that were run by high school student volunteers.

Volunteers organized the timing of the ball feeds and (literally!!) kept the children in line. Others took turns helping the children work on their service motion.  Children served into a cage-like structure constructed from PVC pipes.  Everyone spent a lot of time chasing the balls that peppered the basketball court and surrounding area.

Children won small prizes when they were able to rally with one of the instructors for more than 15 shots.

The event was a huge success and everyone involved had
lots of fun.
